Arrow Energy to build 580km Arrow Bowen CSG Pipeline

7 August 2014, Ferret – Cole Latimer.

Arrow Energy has given notification for its plan to build a massive 580 kilometre coal seam gas pipeline in QLD.

The company released its Environmental Impact Statement earlier this week for its Arrow Bowen Pipeline for public scrutiny and for final Commonwealth environmental assessment.

The high pressure gas transmission pipeline is designed to connect the Bowen Basin gas fields with the proposed Arrow LNG plant and gas hub in Gladstone, and includes a mainline and three al terals.

Measuring between 610mm and 860mm in diameter, and buried to at least 750mm in depth, the proposed route for the pipeline will see it run from the southern part of the Whitsunday region, south through Isaac, Rockhampton, and the Gladstone region.

“Arrow has selected this route to minimise impacts on communities, environmentally sensitive areas like essential habitats, endangered and threatened ecosystems, and native vegetation,” the company said.

As well as the pipeline itself, the EIS includes above ground facilities such as main line valves, scraper stations, cathodic protection systems, worker camps, and support facilities.

According to Arrow the project will generate around $128 million in income for the region, and indirectly inject nearly $2.9 billion into the Australian economy.

Following the release of the EIS Arrow says it is on schedule to award the construction contract for the project in 2015, with work to begin in April 2016.

It was approved by the QLD government in March last year.
