“The Queensland CSG to LNG Industry Workforce Plan released by Energy Skills Queensland identified that 5,000 workers will be required to service more than 40,000 wells for the CSG industry in the Surat and Bowen Basins.”

User choice funding is now available for Certificate II and Certificate III in Well Servicing Operations following formal approval by the Ministerial Industry Commission.

The approval follows an earlier announcement by Energy Skills Queensland that new traineeships in well servicing have been declared to meet the skill demands for one of Queensland’s fastest growing industries.

Energy Skills Queensland, together with the Drilling Industry Leaders Group (DILG) recognised Well Servicing was a new career which required different skills to drilling. This led to the development of the Well Servicing qualifications and Queensland Government declared traineeships for well servicing crews.

Queensland’s vocational education and training sector is undergoing significant change through the implementation of the Queensland Government’s reform agenda Great skills. Real opportunities.

This five year action plan details a strong vision to ensure government investment in training meets the skills needs of industry and the economy, and enables Queenslanders to be trained for current and future job opportunities.

The Queensland Government recognises the importance of training to ensure a strong skills base and guarantee future growth and productivity.

For this reason, the Queensland Government took the important step of establishing the Ministerial Industry Commission.

The Ministerial Industry Commission is an independent advisory body established to create a genuine partnership between industry, employers and government and to provide input into the skills and workforce priorities for Queensland.
