QGC says its new Chinchilla office is a sign the company is prepared to stay in the region for the long haul.

The gas company will officially open the expanded facility today.

It will house community engagement staff but a control room will also monitor the construction of a pipeline to Gladstone and monitor the operation of gas wells.

Spokesman Paul Larter says a large part of its Surat Basin operation is now based in the town.

“We don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say it’s a milestone in the life of Chinchilla too because it’s a reflection of the revitalisation of the town in the past few years,” he said.

He says the building’s control room will ensure safety and efficiency remain paramount.

“By more closely monitoring our networks of equipment we can also more efficiently operate and maintain our equipment and also maximise the production of gas but also enable us to ensure continued safe operation,” he said.
